No okei, väärä sanavalinta. Ovat olleet ennalta-arvaamattomia.

Btw: Travis oli aika innoissaan look-a-like johnny deppistä. En tarkoita tällä mitään sen enempää. Vain yksittäinen havainto vailla sivumerkityksiä.

Big Brother Australia Axed

Channel 10 won't bring the show back in 2009

UPDATE: An official website admin has confirmed Channel 10 will not be renewing Big Brother in 2009.

Big Brother Australia has been officially axed, with Channel 10 holding a media embargo on the announcement until midnight tonight.

The tragic news comes despite the best efforts of this year’s production staff who took risks to revive the BB format. It is also a huge shock for Big Brother Australia fans and the hundreds of employees involved with in show’s creation.

Our sources inside the Big Brother compound tell us the announcement was unexpected for the BB producers, who did what they felt was in the best interests of the show and believed this year would be a season benchmark.

We have also been informed the Big Brother “concept” will return to Channel 10, however this won’t be seen until at least 2010. No word on whether this project is part of the Endemol Big Brother franchise.

1. Alice (1)(2)(2)(2)(1)(1)(1)(2)(3)(3)(2)
2. Rory (12)(8)(8)(7)(10)(9)(8)(5)(5)(5)(4)
3. Ben (9)(4)(4)(4)(4)(5)(4)(4)(4)(6)(5)
4. Travis (10)(10)(10)(9)(7)(7)(7)(6)(6)(7)(6)
5. Terri (--)(12)(11)(8)(12)(9)(8)(8)(8)(7)

EDIT: Unohtui alunperin laittaa tuonne loppuun edellisen viikon sijoitukset, joten lisäsin ne nyt muistaessani.

Yritin nyt laittaa jo kauden kaikki asukkaat paremmuusjärjestykseen. Viimeinen viikko tosiaan alkamassa, eikä se enää varmastikaan ehdi kääntää näitä loppuja kovin merkittävästi enemmän inhokin tai suosikin suuntaan.

1. Brigitte
2. Bianca
3. Rhianna
4. Renee
5. Nobbi
6. Alice
7. Rory
8. Ben
9. Rebecca
10. Cherry
11. David
12. Nathan
13. Travis
14. Terri
15. Terrence
16. Rima
17. Dixie
18. Saxon

Loput sitten inhokkeja, joita on sitten vähän hankala laittaa järjestykseen.
Totuus on tuolla ulkona.

Daily Telegraphin kolumnisti Garth Montgomery pohtii blogissaan syitä BB:n loppumiseen...

Big Brother pays the price for toning it down

by Garth Montgomery
Sunday, July 13, 2008 at 09:56pm

After eight years, Big Brother has come to an end.

The hunt for a scapegoat will go to the hosts first, then the producers for introducing a new format that never quite hit the mark.

Gretel Killeen’s boning caused a lot of noise at the time. After seven seasons she was stale, grumpy and making all the wrong moves in worshipping the bullies and picking on the weak kids.

But the host is irrelevant in this show. Kyle Sandilands and Jackie-O only reinforced that as they failed to do anymore than Gretel did.

Kyle was hired for his supposedly no-nonsense approach, but did nothing to lift the intensity of housemate interviews.

He gave Nate a rough time way back at the start, but it was perhaps too little too late. We never saw his infamous bark again despite opportunities presenting themselves with misbehaving housemates.

The eviction of Nobbi by a massive landslide should have given Kyle the greenlight to show us his pitbull antics, but there was nothing. The alpha male Nobbi, whose behaviour in the house was disgusting and bullying on an unseen level, was never held to account.

In fact Sandilands seemed a bit fawning. He is used to soft soaping celebrities with his ‘Breakfast with the stars’ radio show, so it’s hardly surprising.

But Big Brother is not about hosts. Even if Kyle performed to the level of Gretel in earlier years, none of it would have mattered.

The show was doomed the moment a housemate named Camilla was playfully held down and had testicles rubbed in her face.

That incident, known as the turkeyslap, still haunts executives at Network Ten who suffered the wrath of the ultra conservative Howard government.

The Prime Minster himself condemned the show and the producers got scared. Very scared. The Department of Communications commissioned a report on the incident with a view of tightening laws.

They never really did, but by sitting on the report for so long it acted as a black cloud over the show where the producers played it so safe that they ended all interest in the show.

First to go was the salacious late night fare, which featured all the nudity and sexual escapades of housemates in their twenties.

Next was the type of housemate cast. Gone were the types of girls who would chronically masturbate and soap their boobs for a late night audience.

Instead we got an 18 year old angry woman who reads Plato, a boring vet, and a 52 year old redneck nanna among other vanilla flavoured housemates.

All likeable in their own way, but seriously different beasts to the Christies and Vesnas of years past.

Ironically, the trend overseas was to go more extreme in what reality TV was showing.

But not for Big Brother Australia. The fact the show made it back this year defied the rumours.

With audiences as low as around 850,000 most nights this season, it was a show fighting for its life.

The injection of Pamela Anderson saw a respectable ratings spike to 1.2 million, and 1 million, but it was never going to be enough.

The problem for Ten was always going to be what to replace it with. It was a low cost show that supposedly yielded decent profits.

Apart from the advertising dollars, they had the added bonus of SMS revenue. The show could suffer in ratings for a long time before those two revenue streams were considered replaceable.

But even the SMS voting started to stink. The show was long considered rigged by producers according to hardcore fans, but news that producers connected to the show were betting on eviction outcomes well in advance did nothing to help the credibility of audience participation.

That aside, this year saw a number of major sponsors pull out. Usually the last ten Housemates would each get a car. Last year the make and model of the cars raised eyebrows as they were at the “value” end of the scale.

This year, the show failed to get even a value car maker to get into it.

The show had well and truly lost its lustre.

Still, eight seasons is not a bad run in TV. But after this year, the Game will no longer on, molls.

For some it’ll be a relief. For others, the spectre of trash culture and car crash television just lost one of the best.

Whatever the view of Big Brother, it remains one of the seminal reality TV shows in a genre that has expanded well beyond these humble roots of pure voyeurism.

Big Brother farewells the House

The full statement from TEN

Thanks to eBroadcast:

After eight successful seasons and 1316 episodes, TEN today announced that Big Brother will not be returning in 2009.

The 2008 season finale will air on Monday 21 July.

TEN’s chief programming officer, David Mott, said: “Big Brother is the undisputed grand-daddy of modern, commercial reality television in Australia. Today’s reality dramas have all, on some level, been inspired by Big Brother.

“We are immensely proud of the show and the incredible success it has enjoyed since premiering in 2001.

“We’re ending the season on a high, largely thanks to the talents of Kyle and Jackie O who have presented yet another successful season.”

Mr Mott added that for millions of Big Brother fans who were glued to their screens each day, the show was like catching up with mates: it was entertaining, familiar and sometimes a little unpredictable. For many, it was also highly addictive.

“You just have to read the fan website to see how big and vocal the Big Brother community is,” he said.

Over the years, Big Brother has continued to deliver significant audience and share, especially in TEN’s core demographic, 18-49. The daily, eviction and nomination shows consistently occupied a place in the top programs week after week in 18-49.

Mr Mott acknowledged that the show attracted its fair share of controversy, and often generated robust debate. It instantly became Australia’s most talked about television program.

“Big Brother raised a number of issues which were meaningful and it highlighted some of the very real concerns of young people,” he said.

“The show has taken on topics of race, sex, homosexuality, eating disorders and alcohol abuse, many of which had been handled gingerly, if at all, on TV.”

Big Brother was more than TV. Fans who wanted access to Big Brother, any time anywhere, could do so via their TV, mobile or on the internet. It also provided a multifaceted platform for key sponsors who wanted a “surround-sound” advertising experience.

TEN’s chief executive officer, Grant Blackley, said: “Big Brother has been an important franchise for the network but we are confident this is the right decision at the right time for TEN.

“Importantly, as Big Brother represented up to 120 hours of TV, we now have an opportunity to further diversify our schedule with new, exciting and bold programs for viewers and advertisers.

“We are already in discussions and development with Australian content providers and we have a number of exciting prospects. We expect to announce these programs in the near term.

“We will also rely on our ever-expanding slate of programs from our two prolific US studios - 20th Century Fox and CBS Paramount.”

Mr Blackley thanked the hundreds of advertisers and committed sponsors who have contributed and benefited greatly from their involvement with Big Brother over this long history.

Mr Blackley also praised Endemol Southern Star (ESS) for their professionalism and innovative production which has kept the show fresh and appealing to viewers over the last eight years.

“Their commitment ensured the Big Brother brand made its way into homes across Australia,” he said.

Southern Star Group chief executive, Hugh Marks, said: “To the stars of the show, our housemates, and to the teams of talented and dedicated people who have put this show together every week, you have entertained, enthralled and even educated us. Our Big Brother is a stand-out adaption of this world-wide multimedia phenomenon that will continue for many years to entertain audiences around the world.”

Mr Mott acknowledged the enormous efforts of Big Brother hosts – past and present.

“Kyle and Jackie O have done an outstanding job fronting Big Brother this season. We look forward to seeing Kyle on Australian Idol soon and working with the pair on future projects.

“I’d also like to make special mention of Mike Goldman who has been there from day one with his voicing of every daily show, and over the years has also hosted Friday Night Live and Up Late.

“To Bree Amer, Fitzy, Tony Squires and Rebecca Wilson, thank you for keeping us entertained throughout the series.

“And, of course, a huge thank you to Gretel Killeen for her years of dedication to the show,” he said.

He also paid tribute to the entire production team from ESS and TEN.

“On air, the program ran like a well-oiled machine, yet behind the scenes, the team worked tirelessly 24 hours a day to bring Big Brother to our screens.

“I also want to thank our loyal Big Brother fans for their avid viewing and support throughout the years,” he said.
You´re welcome!

Kolmanneksi, kun travis luuli ettei kamerat kuvaa, ääni muuttui täysin normaaliksi matalaksi miehen ääneksi, kunnes twistin paljastuttua oktaavit nousi taas kattoon. Jepjep.

Neljänneksi, moletehtävässä myyrän nimeäminen aiheutti travisille kymmenen minuutin itkukohtauksen, tämä episodi ei mitään, vaikka selvästi yritti. Jaa miksi?

The australian kirjoitti...
Nine may resurrect Big Brother

BIG Brother may get a second life via the Nine network.

“It’s run its race in its present form," Nine chief executive David Gyngell told The Australian. “I still think it has some life in it in another form. Channel Nine will be looking at it.”

Mr Gyngell said he is a fan of the reality format and is aware of the revenue it can bring to a network across all its platforms. The eight-year-old series ends on Ten on Monday night. Nine will hold talks with owners Endemol Southern Star about overhauling the formula.

“Big Brother was a very good show at its height and it is useful for the economic benefit it brings,” Mr Gyngell said.

Mr Gyngell, who has taken the Nine network back to a winning position since he took over in November last year, is the only television chief executive interested in picking up the format. Both Seven and Foxtel have declined.

He said Ten’s decision not to renew the show for next year was the right one and he praised their handling of the format.

“Ten paid a lot of money for it and they needed to get as much value as they possibly could so they ran a lot of hours,” he said.

“But running so many hours puts a big strain on a show. In its present form it’s not sustainable but it delivers good numbers among the 16 to 24 year olds which is good for any network.”

Ten aired 120 hours of Big Brother each season, usually managing at least one million viewers per episode but dropping this year. At its best Big Brother sparked debate, and promoted the more wholesome characters in the house.

But when its popularity waned it resorted to shock tactics and cast the housemates like a freak show.

At the 11th hour this month, Ten cast former Baywatch actor Pamela Anderson as a house guest in order to boost ratings. It is understood she was paid $150,000 for the drop-in visit to the Gold Coast compound.

BIG Brother is about to get the big brother treatment, with producers investigating claims a staffer placed a large bet against the latest contestant to leave the show more than 24 hours before her eviction.

A spokesman for Endemol Southern Star said any employee found guilty of betting against Brigitte Stavaruk, 21, would be sacked over the company breach.
It was claimed yesterday a $2000 bet placed on Tuesday was allegedly made by a TV producer.

"We are taking these allegations very seriously and an internal crew investigation is underway," the BB spokesman said.

Stavaruk was long odds for eviction at $14 when an anonymous punter phoned a betting agency asking the maximum amount allowable for internet bets.
